Former West Ham United aces Slaven Bilic and Alan Curbishley are the joint betting favourites to be the next manager of Aston Villa following Martin O’Neill’s sudden resignation yesterday.
Paddy Power has installed both the young Croatia manager and the former Villa player at odds of 7/2 with Curbishley sure to be desperate to get his foot back onto the managerial ladder at a club from his past following his long exile.
Darren Haines, spokesman for the bookmaker, said: “This could be the biggest managerial job to become available in the Premier League this season unless Mancini fails to fire at Man City so Randy Lerner shouldn’t be short of applications which will make for an intense betting market over the next few days.”
Also in the early running are Sven Goran Eriksson at betting odds of 6/1 and Dave Jones at 15/2 whilst Alex McLeish is at odds of 10/1 to make the short trip across town from rivals Birmingham City.
Current under-fire England manager Fabio Capello is a 50/1 betting outsider though.
