Saturday’s third round at the Bridgestone Invitational featured PGA golfers coming out of the woodworks to post great rounds. At one point with about three hours left in the third round, seven players were tied for the lead.

But at the end of the day, Ryan Palmer and Sean O’Hair found their names atop the leaderboard and are at 9-under for the tournament. Palmer finished off the day by posting birdies on three of the last five holes to bring him into a tie with O’Hair. The tournament is still anyone’s to win though as 21 players are separated by just five shots.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re in the lead or one shot back, two shots back. It doesn’t matter,” O’Hair said. “There’s 18 holes of golf left, and in my opinion, there’s no leaders. It’s just a shootout.”

Reteif Goosen, who held a one stroke lead heading into Saturday’s third round, got off to a terrible start. One his first hole, he made a triple bogey and never could recover. He now sits at 4-under for the tournament and five shots off the lead.

O’Hair got off to a good start Saturday. He scored an eagle on the second hole after he hit a three iron that landed about twelve feet from the hole. He capitalized his day by playing a bogey-free round. His final round is crucial due to the fact that if he can win the tournament, he can lock up a spot on the U.S. team for the2010 Ryder Cup. He feels that he has a good shot of accomplishing this on Sunday.

“Whoever is going to win this golf tournament is going to be the guy that’s ready to play tomorrow and be on top of his game,” he said. “I think I’m definitely capable of doing that.”

The tournament is also important for Phil Mickelson. All he needs to do is finish in fourth place alone to take over the No. 1 ranking in the world held by Tiger Woods. Mickelson failed to break par on Saturday, but is just four shots from the lead and is at 5-under for the tournament.

O’Hair has his odds set at 3/1 to win the Bridgestone Invitational according to PGA sportsbooks. Palmer has his set at 9/1. Matt Kucher (8-under) and Ernie Els (7-under) both have their odds set at 11/2 while Mickelson is at 10/1.

Tim Tebow became an official member of the Denver Broncos by signing the deal offered by the team before this weekend’s camp. The former Heisman Trophy winner will have an uphill climb towards the starting quarterback position on the Broncos. 2010 NFL betting trends are beginning to favor the Broncos as they move closer to having all their rookies signed and in camp.

While playing for the University of Florida, Tebow became something of a college football legend. His dominance on the field, and character off, was enough justification for the Broncos to select him as the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft.

Also battling for the starting job will be Brady Quinn, who was acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the offseason. The projected starter for their Week 1 match up with the Jacksonville Jaguars is still Orton. Early 2010 NFL betting odds for the game have the Jaguars favored by 1 1/2 points.

King did so to protect the interests of powerful and loved sports leagues in the country, particularly the NFL. King admitted that “the NFL has concerns about gambling.”

To be honest, so do I. Sports betting scandals are terrible for the leagues, the teams and America (just ask the Chicago White Sox or Tim Donaghy). Concerns over game fixing don’t necessarily mean that sports betting should be banned, but it is a legitimate concern.

In any case, the bill passed the House with King’s anti-sports betting amendment. However, that doesn’t mean the amendment will say in the bill. During the full House mark-up, it can still be removed. Another amendment was added by Republican John Campbell and Democrat Brad Sherman. That amendment ensures that online casinos that target U.S. customers would have to be based in America, thus ensuring that the country would profit from the legislation and not lose revenues overseas. Other amendments were added for the protection of players, requiring the online casinos to post the odds of the games, have loss limits and verify the players’ age and location.

The online gambling bill is not yet scheduled for a floor debate and is not expected to be brought to the floor earlier than early September.

Australian boxing champ Danny "The Green Machine" Green is promising legal action after the NSW Combat Sports Authority delivered a last-minute bombshell forbidding Green’s July 21 bout with veteran fighter Paul Briggs to be held in NSW.

Green’s legal eagles are considering their options while organisers and promoters work around the clock to ensure the IBO cruiserweight title fight will go ahead at Perth’s Challenge Stadium.

The NSW Combat Sports Authority has been bashed by both boxers after the board deemed Briggs was unfit to fight despite the 34-year-old twice being cleared by neurosurgeon Ahmed Mohammad and other top medical experts.

With the fight less than two weeks away, the NSW Combat Sports Authority canned the fight after a board meeting on Tuesday without giving either camp any prior notice that the fight, originally scheduled for the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre, was in jeopardy.

Green is calling for NSW Premier Kristina Keneally to launch an enquiry into the NSW government board’s mismanagement of the situation, stating his opponent is "100 per cent fit to fight". Media Man reckons Tony Abbott, leader of the opposition (Liberal) should throw some jabs at the situation, giving "The Bruisers" boxing and all round sporting background and passion.

"I’m outraged," the 37-year-old world champion said. How this little insignificant organisation can think they know more than neurosurgeons and top medical experts shows just how inexperienced they are. The Caribbean island government of Antigua and Barbuda has resurrected its threat to impose World Trade Organisation-approved sanctions on the United States as negotiations on the long-running online gambling dispute between the two nations languish.

Speaking to local reporters at a press conference this week, Antigua Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said the island government would seek to impose sanctions if Washington does not engage more positively in efforts to secure a negotiated solution to a problem on which the WTO ruled in Antigua’s favour three years ago.

Fruitless negotiations had been held since 2007, the prime minister said, but if anything the situation for online gambling companies in Antigua has only become worse.

Spencer said that he intended to seek an early meeting with US President Barack Obama in an attempt to bring an acceptable end to the situation.

“Antigua and Barbuda is concerned that the negotiations are being protracted, with no potential end in sight,” Spencer said.

“In light of the obvious unwillingness of the United States to reach a negotiated settlement that takes into account the contribution of the sector to the economic well-being of Antigua and Barbuda, we have brought the matter before the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, which has supported Antigua and Barbuda’s position on this matter from the inception”.

Spencer added that the Caribbean Community has a mandate to protect the interests of member nations, and said that he expected to obtain “firm regional support to call upon the United States, once and for all, to settle this outstanding matter.”

“In the absence of a resolution, the economy of Antigua and Barbuda is suffering, Spencer noted.

“There has been a dramatic decline in the sector, significant increase in unemployment as a result, (and) stakeholders are suffering. Many have left our shores for other parts because of this elusive settlement.”

“Given the debilitating impact of the fiscal and economic crisis (perpetrated) on our economy and the apparent disinterest of the United States in dealing decisively with this matter, Antigua and Barbuda may have no other alternative but to signal to the WTO that we wish to impose sanctions. We are fast running out of options,” Spencer concluded.
