The initial round of qualifying matches for football’s 2012 European Championships takes place later this week with England set to face Bulgaria in London for the first time in over a decade.

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints square up against the Houston Texans at the Louisiana Superdome Saturday night in the second preseason game for both teams.

The Saints began their preseason with a 27-24 loss to the New England Patriots last Thursday. Offensively, the squad was unimpressive, though, some of that can be chalked up to rust. Brees was accurate, but didn’t do much damage with a 9 for 13, 55 yard passing performance. After Brees got his break, Patrick Ramsey went seven for 11 for 111 yards, and Chase Daniel followed that up with a six for nine, 50 yard and one interception performance. P.J. hill got most of the carries with nine attempts for 30 yards. Look for newly signed running back, Ladell Betts to get some carries in against the Texans. For receivers, Adrian Arrington had four catches for 87 yards, while tight end, Jeremy Shockey chipped in with three catches.

USA Online Sportsbooks have set the Saints as one-point favorites in this one.  The over/under for the game is 41 points.

Defensively, Jonathan Casillas led the team with 10 tackles and one sack, and Usama Young chipped in with four tackles. The Texans meanwhile had an average first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals despite the eventual loss. Offensively, Matt Schaub led the way for the Texans as he went five for six for 78 yards. He got a lot of help from receiver, Andre Johnson who caught three balls, including a 44-yard touchdown pass. Adrian Foster got the nod at starting running back and came up with a 31 yard on four carry effort. Steve Slaton chipped in with 22 yards on 10 carries, while Ben Tate got injured. For the reserves, Dan Orlovsky got the majority of the playing time under center and went 12 for 21 for 129 yards.

Defensively, Darryl Sharpton came up with seven tackles, while Mario Williams contributed three tackles and two sacks. Given the depth on this side of the ball, the Texans seem to be perfectly equipped to deal with the offensive firestorm that are the New Orleans Saints

The London publication CityAM reports that internet betting group Betfair plans to roll out an online multilateral trading facility in London later this year, using its proprietary software platform and financed initially by start-up capital from the main group.

Betfair received FSA regulatory approval for the platform, which will allow investors to exchange contracts for difference, at the end of July 2010.

Although Betfair retains the majority of shares in the group, financial and investment giant Goldman Sachs recently acquired a 12.5% stake in the company for an undisclosed amount.
