Tim Tebow Signs Deal With Denver Broncos

Posted under Casino News by admin on July 29, 2010 2:47 pm ||

Tim Tebow became an official member of the Denver Broncos by signing the deal offered by the team before this weekend’s camp. The former Heisman Trophy winner will have an uphill climb towards the starting quarterback position on the Broncos. 2010 NFL betting trends are beginning to favor the Broncos as they move closer to having all their rookies signed and in camp.

While playing for the University of Florida, Tebow became something of a college football legend. His dominance on the field, and character off, was enough justification for the Broncos to select him as the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft.

The first contract for Tebow in the league is worth $8.7 million in guaranteed money. Initial reports have the contract worth $11.25 million, but a source confirmed that its max value is $33 million. The five-year deal will keep the versatile quarterback in Denver through the 2014 season.

NFL player agent Jimmy Sexton and Broncos general manager were rushing to get a deal done so that Tebow could report to camp. The two-time national champion had already missed three days of workouts for rookies and selected veterans. Tebow is expected to participate in full practice Friday.

Sunday marks the first practice with the full squad in pads. Demaryius Thomas, selected three spots ahead of Tebow, is the last of the Broncos’ draft picks to sign a deal. Denver selected Thomas as the 22nd overall pick in the first round, and expect to have him signed before he misses too much camp.

Thomas is widely considered the most interesting prospect in the NFL since Michael Vick. The former Georgia Tech standout was the primary target for Josh Nesbitt when Paul Johnson’s triple-option offense called a pass play.

This week’s practices were meant to acclimate rookies and veterans that suffered injuries last season to the playbook. Coach Josh McDaniels is happy about being one step closer to having his entire roster in camp. The Broncos’ Super Bowl XLV line should increase in favorability if all players report by the weekend.

“It’s just an opportunity to feel better about playing faster,” McDaniels said. “And I think whether you’re a rookie quarterback or an injured player, it makes sense to come in and try to start crawling before you walk and walking before you run — because certainly none of them are going to hit the ground running because they’re behind.”

Kyle Orton continues to be the projected starter ahead of camp, but the team hasn’t made a long-term commitment to any player. Orton signed a $2.621 million dollar tender as a restricted free agent that allowed him to report to camp on time.

Also battling for the starting job will be Brady Quinn, who was acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the offseason. The projected starter for their Week 1 match up with the Jacksonville Jaguars is still Orton. Early 2010 NFL betting odds for the game have the Jaguars favored by 1 1/2 points.

Frank’s online gambling bill to exclude sports betting

Posted under Casino News by admin on July 27, 2010 2:43 pm ||

If The Barney Frank/Ron Paul online gambling bill becomes law, UIGEA will be repealed and online casino gambling will be legalized and regulated in the United States. Sports betting, though, would still likely be left out.

Yesterday, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (HR 2267), which was concocted by Democrat Frank and Republican Paul, cleared the House Financial Services Committee. By a 41-22-1 vote, the bill to license and regulate online gambling in America passed the committee, paving the way for it to be voted on by the full U.S. House of Representatives.

There are already compromises in the bill, though. Republican Peter King inserted an amendment that emphasizes that sports betting would remain illegal online and offline. King did so to protect the interests of powerful and loved sports leagues in the country, particularly the NFL. King admitted that “the NFL has concerns about gambling.”

To be honest, so do I. Sports betting scandals are terrible for the leagues, the teams and America (just ask the Chicago White Sox or Tim Donaghy). Concerns over game fixing don’t necessarily mean that sports betting should be banned, but it is a legitimate concern.

In any case, the bill passed the House with King’s anti-sports betting amendment. However, that doesn’t mean the amendment will say in the bill. During the full House mark-up, it can still be removed. Another amendment was added by Republican John Campbell and Democrat Brad Sherman. That amendment ensures that online casinos that target U.S. customers would have to be based in America, thus ensuring that the country would profit from the legislation and not lose revenues overseas. Other amendments were added for the protection of players, requiring the online casinos to post the odds of the games, have loss limits and verify the players’ age and location.

The online gambling bill is not yet scheduled for a floor debate and is not expected to be brought to the floor earlier than early September.

Australia: Political Betting Odds and Updates

Posted under Casino News by admin on July 8, 2010 5:20 pm ||

Readers er punters, the gaming, casino, political and internet world continue to come together as one in a roundabout way. What kind of betting is starting to take off in a big way down under in Australia? Political betting, and that’s with or without Paul The Psychic Octopus throwing in his 2 cents worth. Casino billionaires, politicians, media barons, journalists, insiders and everyone else… watch this space. Media Man and Gambling911 ambush the political ballot boxes (figure of speech) with this special report…

Punters, mark it down and get ready to put money down if you’re that way inclined…28th August is widely regarded to be the Australian federal election date.

Centrebet head analyst Neil Evans said August 28 was now well in front of 21st August and the odds for 4th September had also picked up.

"I have been told by a Labor source that August 28 is the target date, with September 4 now being ear-marked as the back-up date," Mr Evans advised.

August 28 has now firmed from $1.85 to $1.70, while September 4 is $4.25 from $6.

Evans said a prominent Australian lawyer had waged $60,000 for Labor to win at $1.22.

The coalition are currently on $4.10 to win the next election.

Greens Head Bob Brown Tip August 21 or 28 Election…

I think either this week or next week she’s likely to go to the Governor-General’s office asking for an election," talking to Network Nine this past Sunday.

"The Labor strategists who changed the prime minister so readily over the mining tax will now be looking at the best time for the government to go to an election. I raised a glass to that myself, it’s an historic breakthrough. However I think a lot of Green votes went across and parked with Julia and Labor voters came and parked with us."

Voters did not like the perceived (or real) mess "Jungle Girl" (Media Man tag) Gillard had made of the asylum seeker policy or her discrimination against same-sex couples in marriage laws, Senator Brown said.

The major parties did not realise the importance of climate change and setting a carbon price to voters, he said.

"The big parties are out of kilter with the majority feeling in this country. They need to change and get a carbon price."

The prime minister could not avoid setting a carbon price and if she did it would disadvantage the opposition, Senator Brown said.

"Tony Abbott will be seen as last century, totally out of touch on this issue," he said.

In the meantime Media Man has issued a public challenge to Tony "The Bruiser" Abbott to set in and show his "clout and punching power" re the banning of an upcoming boxing match in Sydney…

Aussie Boxing Match Banned Background And Update…

Australian boxing champ Danny "The Green Machine" Green is promising legal action after the NSW Combat Sports Authority delivered a last-minute bombshell forbidding Green’s July 21 bout with veteran fighter Paul Briggs to be held in NSW.

Green’s legal eagles are considering their options while organisers and promoters work around the clock to ensure the IBO cruiserweight title fight will go ahead at Perth’s Challenge Stadium.

The NSW Combat Sports Authority has been bashed by both boxers after the board deemed Briggs was unfit to fight despite the 34-year-old twice being cleared by neurosurgeon Ahmed Mohammad and other top medical experts.

With the fight less than two weeks away, the NSW Combat Sports Authority canned the fight after a board meeting on Tuesday without giving either camp any prior notice that the fight, originally scheduled for the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre, was in jeopardy.

Green is calling for NSW Premier Kristina Keneally to launch an enquiry into the NSW government board’s mismanagement of the situation, stating his opponent is "100 per cent fit to fight". Media Man reckons Tony Abbott, leader of the opposition (Liberal) should throw some jabs at the situation, giving "The Bruisers" boxing and all round sporting background and passion.

"I’m outraged," the 37-year-old world champion said. How this little insignificant organisation can think they know more than neurosurgeons and top medical experts shows just how inexperienced they are. Briggs said he was "so angry" at the shock decision and declared himself in some of the best shape of his career. "I’ve been training the house down, I don’t know what they are thinking" Briggs said. The only good news for NSW boxing fans is that Green has not ruled out boxing in Sydney again and tickets to the Sydney fight will be fully refunded.

Brigg’s 3-year absence from the ring was the reason the NSW Combat Sports Authority declared the fight was "unsafe" to go ahead.

Media Man has heard around the traps that this could be the start of a massive crackdown on boxing and other colourful entertainment events like UFC and burlesque. A Media Man insider was heard over saying "No wonder the WWE decided to go to PG13. It’s a political strategy to help give them less headaches. The last thing the WWE wants is another scandal. UFC hasn’t been able to get regulated in New York yet either, nor has the poker bill being passed in California, so the political machines are at work, its obvious".

Stay tuned for more updates.

Wrap Up…

Gillard or Abbott?  Green VS Briggs? Pick em time. Tells us in the forum. Should Abbott being a former boxing champ step in about the match being banned in Sydney? No swearing, even though we know all the old cliche… "How do you know when a politician is lying? When their lips are moving! No offence Julia and Tony… we didn’t make the joke up, we’re just repeating it for the loyal international audience, probably more familiar with "I did not have sexual relations with that women" and ‘Casino Jack’.

Antigua considering U.S. sanctions as online gambling negotiations languish

Posted under Casino News by admin on July 3, 2010 11:30 pm ||

The Caribbean island government of Antigua and Barbuda has resurrected its threat to impose World Trade Organisation-approved sanctions on the United States as negotiations on the long-running online gambling dispute between the two nations languish.

Speaking to local reporters at a press conference this week, Antigua Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said the island government would seek to impose sanctions if Washington does not engage more positively in efforts to secure a negotiated solution to a problem on which the WTO ruled in Antigua’s favour three years ago.

Fruitless negotiations had been held since 2007, the prime minister said, but if anything the situation for online gambling companies in Antigua has only become worse.

Spencer said that he intended to seek an early meeting with US President Barack Obama in an attempt to bring an acceptable end to the situation.

“Antigua and Barbuda is concerned that the negotiations are being protracted, with no potential end in sight,” Spencer said.

“In light of the obvious unwillingness of the United States to reach a negotiated settlement that takes into account the contribution of the sector to the economic well-being of Antigua and Barbuda, we have brought the matter before the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, which has supported Antigua and Barbuda’s position on this matter from the inception”.

Spencer added that the Caribbean Community has a mandate to protect the interests of member nations, and said that he expected to obtain “firm regional support to call upon the United States, once and for all, to settle this outstanding matter.”

“In the absence of a resolution, the economy of Antigua and Barbuda is suffering, Spencer noted.

“There has been a dramatic decline in the sector, significant increase in unemployment as a result, (and) stakeholders are suffering. Many have left our shores for other parts because of this elusive settlement.”

“Given the debilitating impact of the fiscal and economic crisis (perpetrated) on our economy and the apparent disinterest of the United States in dealing decisively with this matter, Antigua and Barbuda may have no other alternative but to signal to the WTO that we wish to impose sanctions. We are fast running out of options,” Spencer concluded.

Chines police bust 100 billion yuan gambling ring run by ‘Dark Brother’

Posted under Casino News by admin on 5:09 pm ||

Police and other enforcement authorities in China have told the Reuters news agency that their concentrated drive against internet gambling on the World Cup has yielded another gigantic bust – this one arguably the largest online gambling ring yet.

Headed by a mysterious underworld character dubbed ‘Dark Brother’, the ring reportedly took bets exceeding 100 billion yuan (£9.6 billion)

Policed have claimed that the gang operated a ‘sophisticated and secretive online betting network’ since 2006, but that starting June 7 enforcement agencies methodically broke up the organisation, which was especially active in the southern province of Guangdong.

China’s scandal-plagued football team failed to qualify for the World Cup, but that has not dampened the enthusiasm of Chinese fans, Reuters reports. Betting on World Cup fixtures has continued despite the ruling Communist Party’s ban on gambling.

Police arrested ‘Dark Brother’, whom they identified as a Hong Kong resident, as he was leaving a nightclub party in Shenzhen, a free-wheeling city neighbouring Hong Kong.

“The case of the gambling gang involves accumulated sums of over 100 billion yuan,” police spokesmen claimed, adding that ‘Dark Brother’ and his subordinates ran a tightly-organised network across southern and eastern China that took bets through the Internet. The report said the gang leader’s surname was Li.

In related news, Indonesian police rescued a shocked and relieved student who had bet over his bankroll on World Cup football outcomes and was unable to pay around $121,000 he owed the illegal bookie, identified only as one ‘Rick’.

Jakarta Police said the student was kidnapped by a gang allegedly hired by Rick and held captive for hours at a hotel before being rescued by police acting on tip-offs. He told police that the gang had threatened to kill him if he was unable to come up with the cash he owed.

Arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
