Jenna Jameson Drops Tito Ortiz Abuse Charges

Posted under Casino News by admin on April 25, 2010 11:36 am ||

The wife of UFC champ Tito Ortiz, porn star Jenna Jameson, has decided to withdraw allegations that he was abusive towards her.  Ortiz has spent several days in jail following an arrest last week for domestic violence.

Jenna, who accused Tito of injuring her during an argument, now tells TMZ:

"What actually happened has now been dramatically distorted and misinterpreted and remarks that both Tito and I made after the police arrived reflect the state of shock that we were both in."

Translation — he didn’t hurt me, TMZ.com points out.

And Ortiz is backing off the allegations that Jenna is an OxyContin addict.  Jameson has tested negative for drugs according to TMZ.

Tito’s lawyer, Chip Matthews, tells TMZ the whole thing was "a big misunderstanding."

One more thing … Sources say Tito stands to lose $15 million if he’s prosecuted for domestic violence — the money accounts for his UFC contract as well as other businesses, TMZ added.

US Marshalls to Transport Daniel Tzvetkoff

Posted under Casino News by admin on 5:18 am ||

As first reported by Gambling911.com Wednesday morning, online gambling payment processor Daniel Tzvetkoff will remain in jail after a New York District Court overturned a Las Vegas Magistrate judge’s decision to allow the Australian native out on bail.

Judge Lewis A Kaplan sided with prosecutors and reversed the decision, declaring Tzvetkoff a "serious flight risk".

Tzvetkoff is facing up to 75 years behind bars for alleged money laundering related to his online gambling processing business.  He is likely to spend the next two years behind bars while awaiting trial even if ultimately Tzvetkoff is found to be not guilty.

He is also accused of withholding millions of dollars in funds from online poker rooms.

US Marshalls were to transport Tzvetkoff from a jail in Las Vegas to a prison cell in New York.

Casinos Set to Step into the Online World

Posted under Casino News by admin on April 15, 2010 6:17 am ||

It’s no secret that the major US operators are keen to enjoy a cut of the online casino market and speculation that the Nevada Gaming Control Board is considering rules to monitor and regulate the land-based casinos of Las Vegas is causing ripples of excitement in Sin City.

The US position on gaming is steeped in the richest hypocrisy. The irony that the world’s leading gambling destination is in the middle of a country where online gaming is illegal has not escaped pundits and commentators.

“It’s incredible that a nation that is on its financial knees like the US cannot see the value in taxing a regulating online gaming,” said online gaming guru and leading casino affiliate Paul Smithers. “The fact that Las Vegas exists in the US is a complete contradiction. How can a country that so vehemently opposes online gaming be the host nation for the capital of gambling. It makes no sense,” he said.

With the far right Republican Christians in the minority, it looks like a change is on the horizon. It has been speculated that the Nevada Gaming Control Board is now creating rules to govern the land-based casino operators once the federal government regulates the online gambling industry and gives the green light to Nevada legislators which would then permit Las Vegas casinos to legally offer gambling over the Internet.

They want to make sure that all of the rules and regulations in Las Vegas and the rest of Nevada are up-to-date. Once online casino gambling is legal within the United States, the land-based casinos will rush to enter the new market. The NGCB wants to make sure that the same rules and protections are in place for online gambling that protect land casino operators, their employees, and patrons in the state of Nevada. The casino operators in Las Vegas have been able to advertise free casino games because online gambling is legally a grey area in Nevada.

While their are strict guidelines when it comes to advertising the casinos in Las Vegas, the laws are unclear when it comes to online gambling and advertising over the Internet. The NGCB as well as government legislators plan to draft rules and regulations for the online gambling industry.

French licence first, says Cake Poker Network

Posted under Casino News by admin on April 10, 2010 11:02 am ||

Cake Poker Network’s French players are seeking a new home following the network’s advisory that it is closed to French players with effect from the end of last week. The ban on French action will affect all Cake network member sites who have French players.

It is understood that the move was motivated by Cake’s desire to meet French legal requirements as it applies for a licence in the soon-to-be-liberated French market.

“Due to new French legislation, players in France will not be able to play for real money from April 9th,” a Cake spokesman said last week.
“Players will of course be able to access the Cashier after April 9th so that they can withdraw their funds. We are looking into obtaining the relevant licenses to adhere to the new legislation as a matter of priority and once the circumstances change, we will be in contact to let all players concerned know. We do hope to welcome French players back to our software soon. I apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

The new French laws allow for a regulator, ARJEL, to issue licences for gambling operations in France as part of a more liberal approach to Internet gambling. The legislation has been passed by the Senate and the National Assembly and is currently under review by the European Commission. It will then await only the president’s signature to become law, hopefully prior to the football World Cup in June 2010.

Blotter: Gang arrested in Virginia poker robberies

Posted under Casino News by admin on 5:20 am ||

Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, arrested six men in connection with two home invasion robberies of high-stakes private poker games. The robbers stole several thousand dollars’ worth of cash, credit cards, watches and jewelry in two heists last month, the first on 12 March and the second on 22 March. A police spokeswoman said that the home games might have been pre-selected as targets due to their high visibility and the large amount of cash available at the tables.

According to police reports, one of the robbers dressed in a black T-shirt with the word "POLICE" displayed in bright letters, possibly in an attempt to coerce the hosts into opening their doors. The other gang members, all dressed in black and wearing black ski masks, showed handguns and forced the players to give up their wallets, jewelry, cell phones and keys. No injuries were reported as a result of the thefts, although some players fell victim to the robbers in both cases.

Police arrested four of the six men after a traffic stop in Rockville, Maryland, where they found marijuana and robbery tools in their 2008 Nissan Altima. The men arrested were identified as:

• Kevin Guzman, 18, of Silver Spring, Maryland • Dalio Guzman, 20, brother of Kevin Guzman • Kadeem Haynes, 19, of Rockville, Maryland • Francis Voysest, 18, of Greenbelt, Maryland

The four men face charges of marijuana possession and two counts of robbery, among other charges. Police also arrested two other men in connection with the thefts:

• Samie Niel, 20, of Silver Spring, Maryland • Hung T. Nguyen, 31, of Germantown, Maryland

Lucy Caldwell, the spokeswoman for the Fairfax County Police Department, said that the suspects may have been involved in other robberies at home poker games, but that any other possible victims have yet to come forward. She also said that the players who were victimized by the thieves would not face illegal gambling charges.

Blotter: US federal grand jury investigating Full Tilt Poker

Posted under Casino News by admin on April 5, 2010 11:23 am ||

According to a report in the Financial Times of London, US federal prosecutors have convened a grand jury to investigate charges of money laundering and illegal gambling against Full Tilt Poker, the second-biggest online poker site. If the grand jury issues indictments, some of the best players on the poker tournament circuit could face criminal charges. The report also states that agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have interviewed players who have had disputes with the company, Tiltware LLC.

Eric Jackson, an attorney based in Los Angeles who lists Tiltware as one of his clients, said that the company had yet to be informed of any aspect of the grand jury investigation. Mr. Jackson also represents several pro poker players that have sponsorship agreements with the site, including two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Howard "The Professor" Lederer, seven-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey and 2000 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris "Jesus" Ferguson.

Federal prosecutors have yet to release any statements, as they have a policy of not commenting to the press about the status of an ongoing investigation. The US Attorney’s office in Manhattan prompted the investigation into Full Tilt’s potential involvement in money laundering violations. Last year, federal prosecutors seized almost US$50 million from both Full Tilt and PokerStars, the world’s biggest online poker site, alleging that the sites were involved in facilitating illegal gambling and money laundering operations.

The investigation is part of the continuing attempts of the US Justice Department to enforce laws that prohibit the transfer of gaming information through electronic communications. The Federal Wire Act of 1961 made it illegal to use telephone, telegraph or other wire services to pass on betting information. A recent ruling from the US Fifth Court of Appeals said that Wire Act only applies to sports betting and not to online poker. The case has not yet gone before the US Supreme Court.
