Russ Hamilton Won’t be at Table of Champions

The WSOP is off to a roaring start. If the economy is affecting the poker players, the numbers don’t show it. There have been three events so far and each event has set a record for the number of players entered. I’ve always said that poker players are a great barometer of the economy and this is a positive sign. Let’s hope so anyway.

I’ve played one event, the $40K. I made it through the 1st day and had above average chips but never won a pot the second day. Out of 208 entries, I was #78. Annoying to beat almost 2/3 of the field and wind up $40,000 loser. It was a good event however with the winner getting almost $2 million.

Mike Caro and I are giving poker seminars at the Rio. Mike is very good with the strategy and tips and I do a Q&A at the end. They are free to the public and lots of folks are coming so you should get there early if you want to attend.

The Table of Champions is tomorrow. It looks like all of the living winners of the main event with the exception of Russ Hamilton will be there to play for the 1st Binion Cup, a new car and bragging rights. It should be a lot of fun and lots of ribbing going on.

Lots of tweeting going on the Twitter. I’m really surprised at all the information you get from the thousands of people that follow you. I truthfully think Twitter is just a fad that will soon fade away. Maybe not, it is a lot of fun. Louise will be home in two weeks and I’ll teach her how to tweet.

Susan Boyle Betting Frenzy Continues

Posted under Casino News by admin on 7:40 am ||

Scottish singing sensation, Susan Boyle, was said to be in good spirits heading into Saturday night’s much anticipated finale of Britain’s Got Talent as betting on the show reaches record numbers.

The 48-year-old Boyle remains favourite to beat nine other other acts vying for the £100,000 prize and the chance to sing at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond backed Boyle, not surprisingly.

"Susan Boyle has put her home town of Blackburn, West Lothian, well and truly on the map.

"Her outstanding performances in singing I Dreamed a Dream and Memory have catapulted her to global stardom.

"Over the past couple of months, Susan has wowed the judges and public with her incredible voice and display of enormous talent. I’ll be tuning in to cheer her on and I’m sure everyone in Scotland will be wishing her well.

"I’m convinced she’s got what it takes to be a winner in tonight’s final,’ he said.

Susan Boyle was listed with 10/11 odds at Sportingbet heading into the Saturday evening finale.  For US customers looking to bet on Susan Boyle, Sportsbook.com promised a payout of $10 for every $18 bet (the total return $28 should she win the talent competition).   Boyle at one time had been a huge favorite to win.

"There is definitely some amazing value in betting on Susan Boyle, all things considered," commented Payton O’Brien of Gambling911.com.

Millions of dollars have already been bet on this season’s Britain’s Got Talent, making it one of the most wagered on television shows ever.

Thus far 23 Congressmen and women have indicated their support for the bill, including Nevada’s Shelley Berkely, New York Democrats Joseph Crowley and Michael McMahon, and Bob Filner – a Democrat from California who is also chairman of the House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.

From New Jersey comes the support of Democrat Steven Rothman, and it is understood that Florida Democrat Robert Wexler, who has supported previous Frank atempts to repeal the UIGEA, has also signed up. Democrat Jim McDemott of Washington is behind the Bill, and has launched a companion taxation proposal, as he did last time around.

On the Republican side of the House, Congressmen Ron Paul (Texas) and Peter King (New York) have also indicated they stand with Frank on the new bill.

Other sponsors include: Steve Cohen (D-TN), Melvin Watt (D-NC), Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Robert Scott (D-VA), Tim Bishop (D-NY), Gregorio Sablan (Ind. Manila Islands), Mike Capuano (D-MA), Tom Perriello (D-VA), Andre Carson (D-IN), George Miller (D-CA), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Jim McGovern (D-MA), Bill Delahunt (D-MA), Alcee Hastings (D-FL) and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL).

Last year’s unsuccessful attempt by Congressman Frank to regulate and license online gambling in the United States attracted almost 50 co-sponsors. Frank has frequently appealed to US players to write their Congressional representatives urging them to support his legislation, emphasising that such recommendations are definitely influential in persuading politicians to make the right decisions.
